When kids start a lemonade stand it’s often to earn a little extra cash to buy something they really want.
Six-year-old Brady Campbell recently opened a lemonade stand in his Denver, Colorado, neighborhood with the intention of earning money to pay for something really special–date night with his mom.
“My dad and I came up with the idea of a lemonade stand to take my mom on a date because I didn’t have enough money and I wanted to pay, so I did it,” the six-year-old said, according to KDVR.
Unfortunately, his dad, Brandon Campbell passed away on July 7 from colon cancer. The day after Brady opened his lemonade stand.
“It was amazing,” Brady’s mom and Brandon’s wife, Amanda, said. “You could just feel the warmth and energy and such a positive thing in such a tragic time for us. It really lifted our spirits and really made Brady so happy.”
The first day of the stand, Brady charged customers “25 cents or best offer” and managed to serve 75 people. Altogether he made $244 his first day of business, enough to take his mom out on a date.
A neighbor also set up a virtual lemonade stand, accepting donations through GoFundMe. According to the fundraiser page, a “small portion” will be used for Brady and Amanda’s fun adventures, while the rest will go towards Brandon Campbell Memorial Fund at University of Colorado Anschutz and Colontown, an online patient and caregiver support group.
“Through that, we can get advocacy out, the word for colon cancer, especially young onset colon cancer. We are happy through all this, we have brought some awareness. I feel like it gives some purpose to such a tragedy,” Amanda said.
It is so sweet that Brady is thinking of his mom, when he’s hurting from his loss too. I hope Brady is able to take his mom on a lot of date nights.
