Elderly couple together for 60 years die from coronavirus two hours apart – rest in peace

An Italian couple who had been together for 60 years died of coronavirus just two hours apart from each other on Tuesday.

According to the Daily Mail, Severa Belotti, 82, and Luigi Carrara, 86, spent the last days of their lives in quarantine, with no one to comfort them on their deathbeds.

Luca Carrara, son of the couple, says his mother and father were kept on lockdown in their homes and had no medical assistance despite suffering from fevers of 102.2 Fahrenheit.

Luigi was reportedly taken to hospital on Saturday and his wife was admitted a day later. The couple died two hours apart from each other at 9:15am and 11am, as per reports.

“They died alone, that’s how this virus works,” Luca said.

“Your loved ones are left alone and you can’t even say goodbye, hug them, try to give them some comfort, maybe even a good lie like ‘everything will be fine’.’”

Luca himself is currently in quarantine with his family. He complained about conditions at the Bergamo hospital where his parents died, saying:

“They (the staff) do not know where to put patients, probably because doctors are doing a selection and letting the elderly people leave.”

Luca also said that he was not able to see the bodies after his parents died as they were taken to the cemetery and will be cremated within days due to there being “too many dead people”.

So far over 800 people have died of COVID-19 in Italy, whilst there are upwards of 12,462 confirmed cases.

Experts in the U.S. this week warned that the total number of Americans affected could reach 150 million. President Donald Trump yesterday placed a ban on inbound flights from Europe as the U.S. tries to get ahead of the spread of the virus.

Rest in peace to all the people who have lost their lives as a result of coronavirus so far. We’re sending all our prayers to those suffering.
